25 Days of Giving Day 23: Give Forward Donation

December 23, 2013

Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

For today’s Day of Giving I made a donation to someone in need of funds on GiveForward.com. Give Forward is a fundraising website that lets people in need of medical help raise funds for the expenses insurance doesn’t cover.

I learned about the website today through an article I read that told the story of a woman recovering from cancer. While receiving chemotherapy everyday, she needed to stay in the hospital and her copay was $500. A day. When all was said and done she needed to pay $15,000 out of pocket. Her family learned of the Give Forward website and, thanks to the help of strangers, they were able to raise all the funds needed and then some.

So I visited the site today to find a stranger to help. I sorted by the “recently started” campaign and on the first page was a guy in need of help that is from York, but originally from Baltimore too! Seemed like fate for me to find him so I donated to his fund and was happy to see he is only a few hundred dollars away from his goal. In recent years he has had deteriorating health, including becoming legally blind, and sadly his home just burned down, and along with it he lost his beloved cat. I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose your sight, your home and your pet – so I thought I donate a little bit to help him out.

Here’s hoping he reaches his goal before Christmas!

Aw poor guy. What a cool website. I’m going to put it on my list for next year. I missed wrapping gifts with you and Burt this year but definitely next year! The lady said she’s putting us on her wrappers list :)
