York Central Market Busy Bee

May 3, 2012

Since my Photo Friday posts will likely be digging through old photos, I wanted to make sure I was still keeping y’all up to date on what I’m doing lately. So, at least once a week, I will be posting about what I’ve been up to lately.

For a while now I’ve been saying that I need to update my York Central Market favorites and Favorites Part II posts. So, inspired by my lunch from Central Market the other day, I thought I’d start by focusing on the Busy Bee. I briefly wrote about the place when it first opened, but by now I’ve been eating here regularly for almost a couple of years.

One of my favorite things about the Busy Bee is that the owner is constantly changing out his specials. But he doesn’t do it in a haphazard way. His specials usually include some type of lighter fare, spicy fare, some type of red meat a couple of soups and a couple of desserts.

The other day I had a delicious concoction of grilled romaine and tequila marinated shrimp. I had to take a picture.

Then I looked at the pictures on my phone and realized the food is so pretty that’s not the first picture of his food that I’ve taken. Here is a rainbow trout salad from last summer:

Busy Bee Salad

I remember this salad because it was so good it didn’t even need dressing, it came with some sort of fresh tomato and roasted corn salsa. The Busy Bee tries to purchase the majority of the foods from the market or locally, so it’s always fresh and in season.

And then I found a pic of this epic duck salad and I may have started drooling:

He doesn’t always have duck, but when he does, I always get it because it’s that good. Much better than my attempt to roast the one duck the hubs finally shot on his yearly hunting trip. (Who knew duck could taste like fish? Woops and yuck.) And inexpensive compared to any other place that I’ve ever gotten duck. His meals are usually just under $10.

And another great thing is that the owner is always at the stand. So if you go there regularly he gets to know you and might start asking, “How are you doin’ today darlin’?” AND he starts to know what you like. So if you don’t see something on the menu you want, he’ll whip up something and you’ll probably love it. I always have.

And this doesn’t hurt either:

Busy Bee is definitely one of my Market musts. What about you guys? What are your Market musts?

Ah the bag is so adorable!

He often has vegetarian- and vegan-friendly choices or will modify a menu item to make it that way. Gotta love that!

He catered my Mom’s birthday party a few months ago and everyone loved it. It was just perfect.

Yum – yup the food I get from him is generally vegetarian and it is delicious! I’ve not seen much vegan stuff from him but I would definitely get it if he had it. York is pretty meat-centric but the places that do have vegetarian/vegan food are tasty!
