25 days of Giving – Day 3

December 3, 2011

I’m super excited to announce that my BFFE has decided to join me on my 25 days of giving! I talked to her yesterday and as luck would have it, she had already volunteered on the 1st anyway so she was in the game without even realizing it. You can read about her adventures over on her blog here (and trust me – that girl knows how to have adventures).

Now back to my Saturday of giving. This time the hubs joined in, actually he did most of it, at least most of the loading. Today we made a donation to Resource York. You may remember them from my earlier post here. They take any kind of home improvement item or furnishing and resell it at a reduced cost to the community. The store is a collaboration between Habitat for Humanity and Bell Socialization Services, benefiting both charities and employing low-income disabled persons. We actually have been fortunate enough to donate to them frequently because we have been in a constant state of remodeling since we purchased our home four years ago.

Today we the hubs loaded up the car with a garden hose, 4 patio chairs, a patio table, a mini fridge, a light fixture and about 100 bricks. The car was packed, but I forgot to take a picture, so here is a picture of the aftermath:

We were in a rush today, but usually I manipulate guilt convince the hubs to let me shop there when we donate. I actually just finished installing/restoring our more recent purchases. We bought this old chair like this…

…and recovered/painted it to turn it into this:

My dad also recently came up and helped me hang this light fixture we got from Resource York too. Ignore the paint job – that’s going to have to be a Spring project.

It was really nice donating today because the York College Rugby team was there volunteering. What took the hubs about an hour to load up took about a minute for the team to unload. They always have people to help you unload your car, but lucky for us there were even more than ever today.

One last note about Resource York: they are moving locations. Starting January 6th they will be located on Ninth Street near the Dunkin Donuts.

Awesome! It feels great to get rid of stuff around the house. Thanks for the shout-out!
