Yet another reason why I love York’s Central Market
Today was kind of a rough day. You know the kind, one thing after another, could anything possibly go right, woe is me kind of day. When I finally got home I sulked a little bit wishing that just one thing could could be easier.
When I got over myself, I realized that I had so quickly forgotten a couple of really nice conversations I had today. One had happened at lunch time with the guy I purchase produce from at Central Market. I wish I could tell you the name of the stand – I think it’s Dennis Fitz Produce – but it is the biggest produce stand at the front of market and you can’t miss it.
Anyway, remember how I was in NYC last week? Well the guy that I buy produce from was worried about me. He didn’t see me all week and was worried something was wrong. When I got there today he asked me if I was OK and I told him I had been traveling. He told me, “I said to my wife, ‘That young girl with the dark hair hasn’t been here this week. I hope she’s OK.’ I don’t even know your name!”
So after years of providing me with my produce, always picking out the least dinged up fruit for me and countless times of being told I’m like a surrogate granddaughter to him, I introduced myself and found out his name is Jerry.
And Jerry’s warmness isn’t an isolated incident at Market. The owner of Busy Bee always asks, “How are you doin’ today darlin’?”, the guy at the organic produce stand always winks at me and I’m Facebook friends with several of the vendors. It’s a great little community inside this great bigger community.
So Jerry and I had a nice chat and then I walked around the Market and my so much has changed in a week! There are so many new stands that it’s probably time I update my Central Market Favorites Part I and Central Market Favorites Part II.
But for now I’m going to cheer myself up and see what horribly cheesy and equally wonderful Christmas movie I can find on TV

Adorable!
Hooray for Jerry-we should all have a “Jerry” in our daily routine-he makes my heart smile.
